Middletown
Legislator requests money to fix leaky water main
A water main break at SUNY Orange is leaking 100,000 gallons of treated water each day on the community college campus, filling a nearby pond, Orange County Legislator Jeff Berkman said yesterday.
Addressing college and county officials during a budget hearing at the college last night, Berkman recommended increasing the budget to install new water mains and conserve water.
"Let's fix the leak," he said. "I want to conserve water."
The SUNY Orange leak the largest single leak of treated drinking water in the city was detected near Wawayanda Avenue during a recent survey conducted by the Orange County Water Authority, Berkman said.
